GeckoOS is a computer operating system for the desktop user. It is in early development.
So this website is more like a status report than the final presentation. But it will be!

The Vision

To create a desktop OS for the masses. The average computer user uses the Microsoft Windows operating system ^*. Since Windows 95 nothing ground breaking has been introduced to the Windows operating system. A lot of new eye candy in Windows XP and Windows Vista but still the same applications under the hood. If an user worked with Windows 95, he still will be able to work with the newer versions.

So this project will take the average user by the hand and lead him to a desktop he feels at home with.

As basis we chose Slackware for several reasons:

• very mature solid base
• regular releases
• configurable by text files

As desktop we chose the Equinox Desktop Environment (EDE), the lightweight Windows like desktop.
